DSM&T’s Patented Waterproofing Process
Moisture entering your electrical assembly is never a good idea, and power cords working in damp or wet environments are the most susceptible. Moisture can even be drawn up through the cable itself through the process commonly known as wicking.
WICKING is one of the most common causes for electrical devices to fail when operating in moist environments. Often confused with just a crack in the outer casing or leakage into the housing of a machine, this simple yet complex phenomenon can mean the difference between a relaxing day outdoors and a weekend filled with repairs.
What is wicking?
Wicking is caused by moisture entering a crack in the outer jacket of a cable (1) (common with age, stress and temperature variations) or through the wire strands.
Wicking is most common when the equipment and wires cool down after operation (2). Any air that expanded with heat now condenses and creates a vacuum. Much like an oil lamp or pocket lighter draws fuel from a reservoir, this vacuum causes moisture to be pulled up through the strands of wire into the housing or assembly (3).
DSM&T has created and developed MoistureBlock® Technology to stop water, oil and other fluids from migrating in either direction through a power cord, preventing damage to involved internal circuits.
This patented process adds additional protection from moisture by sealing the conductors at the micro level –down to the individual copper strands themselves! Ensuring your product is protected from the elements.
MoistureBlock® is designed to survive harsh environmental conditions and is gaining rapid acceptance in many industries:
- Landscape Lighting
- Industrial Machinery and
- the water pump industry
Protect your product with MoistureBlock® Technology today and avoid failures tomorrow.
MoistureBlock® Technology can be added “In-Line” to easily integrate into your existing assembly.
This technology can be applied to many stock and custom connectors to fit your application.
