R&D and Troubleshooting Assistance
What’s causing your assembly to fail? Is moisture getting in? Or maybe high heat and pressure are to blame. Whatever the reason may be, DSM&T’s highly specialized R&D and Troubleshooting teams can help.
Whether it’s liquid intrusion, impact resistance, or high heat & pressure, if you have a special application that needs a solution, we can help. Our Research and Development Department along with our Technical Sales experts pride themselves in their ability to solve some of the most head-scratching electrical interconnect issues.
Our Staff
Our R&D Team has a combined total of over 60 years experience in the Electrical Interconnect Field. Over the years they have gained the knowledge necessary to quickly provide real, workable solutions. Our R&D team has provided time and time again the support that our clients need to solve their issue and get a step above the competition.
Software
We use the latest in AutoDesk® Software, including AutoCAD and Inventor, as our core engineering programs. We use these to provide the customer industry standard engineering drawings and 3D models.
Additional software suites used include: Adobe®, Mastercam®, Bunkspeed®, Microsoft® and other proprietary software.
3D Prototypes
Using the latest in 3D Printing Technology we are able to provide samples and, in some cases, working prototypes to our clients. This assures the project is exactly what you want before investing further resources.
Let’s take a closer look at our R&D and Troubleshooting Process

- Step 1: Consulting
- Step 2: Engineering & Testing
- Step 3: Production
- Step 4: Quality Control
- Step 5: Delivery
The first step is to identify the problem. Our technical sales representative will troubleshoot with you and your product to not only identify the problem, but also possible causes. Although this can be done over the phone or by email, a visit to your facility is your best option. Seeing and playing with the product where you intend to use it is the best way for our team to not only get to know your product better, but to also discover any hidden causes of the problem.
This information is then presented to our R&D Team for analysis. Depending on the complexity of the issue, our team will either suggest a tried-and-true solution we’ve used in the past for other satisfied clients, or draw up ideas for a unique solution.
Once the problem has been verified, we can move forward to the solutions stage. At this point our Engineering staff take-over and begin by:

We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop by consulting you every step of the way. Once you receive you First Article Samples you can get started on testing. We encourage you to give us feedback especially if it’s not performing like you would like it to. Remember R&D is often time trial and error.
Once you approve the First Article Samples production can begin. Your customer service representative will review with you lead times, quantities, price and other miscellaneous information to get your order started.
Although we take great care in manufacturing your part to be right the first time, every item we produce goes through a stringent testing process unique to each part to make sure you get working parts.
Tests May Include:
- Visual Inspection
- Polarity
- Continuity
- Pull Test
- Ingress Protection
- Dielectric
Usually the customers favorite part: receiving parts. After initial prototyping, extensive engineering, proper testing and finally production you can now enjoy the finished product designed specifically for your project.
